1. Restart your FireStick Device
Minor software glitches in FireStick can cause FireStick black screen problem. To fix this problem, you have to restart your FireStick device.
It will give your FireStick device a fresh start. All the open apps will close and FireStick settings will revert to their previous state. This is how you restart FireStick:
Read our guide on How to Restart FireStick to find out various other ways to restart FireStick.
1. Disconnect FireStick from the power source.
2. Wait for 5 minutes.
3. Plug it back into the power source.
4. FireStick will restart in a few seconds.
2. Ensure the Connections aren’t Loose
The HDMI port, HDMI cable & the adapter connect your FireStick, TV & Power source. Any loose connection between them will cause FireStick black screen as it will fail to work properly. So, disengage the FireStick from the HDMI port and the power source and connect them again correctly.
3. Switch the HDMI Port
The HDMI port that you were using may also be damaged. To check if the port is the issue, connect the FireStick device to a different HDMI port on your TV. Most TVs these days have multiple HDMI ports.
4. Check HDMI Cable/Adapter for Damage
Damaged cables can cause FireStick stuck on black screen issue. Check the cables that connect your FireStick to the TV & power source for signs of wear & tear. If it’s defective, replace it with a new one.
5. Connect the FireStick directly into TV’s HDMI Port
If the adapter, hub, or HDMI extender you are using to connect FireStick to TV has stopped working, you may see black screen on FireStick. In such a case, ditch the accessories and connect the FireStick directly to the TV and see if the issue is resolved
6. Make Sure the Input Source is Correct
Most TVs nowadays have multiple HDMI ports. So, make sure the HDMI port connecting the FireStick matches the input source. If you have set the TV to an incorrect input source, you will see FireStick black screen problem.
For example, if you have connected FireStick to the first HDMI port of TV, ensure HDMI 1 is the input source of the TV. The Ports are numbered, you will be able to find the number next to each port.
Match your TV remote’s source or input button to the HDMI port that your Fire TV is plugged into. For that simply press the source or input button on your TV remote (NOT the FireStick Remote). Then, select the correct input source. If you can’t check the number of the port on the TV, simply select the ports one by one to see which one works.
7. Let Your FireStick Cool down
When the FireStick gets overheated, it affects its performance drastically. This may also cause FireStick black screen problem. FireStick generally gets overheated if you are using it for a prolonged period.
Also, you may face this issue often if you reside in a warmer region. Other reasons include hardware faults in FireStick.
To tackle the overheating issue, do the following:
1. Disconnect FireStick from the power source.
2. Let it cool down for at least half an hour.
3. When the FireStick has cooled down enough, connect it back to the power source.
8. Use HDMI Extender
I know I have asked you to not use HDMI extender before but sometimes if there is limited space between the TV and the FireStick, it may result in FireStick getting overheated. This will result in FireStick black screen problem. The limited space problem occurs mainly when your TV is wall mounted.
Consider using an HDMI Extender to connect FireStick to the TV rather than connecting it directly via the HDMI port of TV. This will give the FireStick adequate room.
9. Change the Power Source
FireStick black screen after logo can be caused if it is not getting 1A or more power to keep it running. If you are supplying power to the FireStick via the USB port of TV, I recommend connecting FireStick directly to the Power Source using the Adapter.
This will always ensure FireStick is getting enough power to run properly.
10. Use Original Accessories (Adapter & HDMI Cables)
I suggest using the original Power adapter and HDMI cables to connect FireStick. Duplicate accessories sometimes fail to provide the required power to constantly run FireStick. Thus, it may result in black screen on FireStick.
Even if the adapter and the cables stop working, replace them with original ones manufactured by Amazon.
11. Use a Compatible TV
If your TV does not support HDCP, there are high chances that it will not work with a FireStick. Normally, if you are using an old TV set, you are likely to face this problem. So, check your TV specifications and ensure it is compatible with FireStick.
Also, some TVs have HDMI ports that are incompatible with the FireStick. It’s because the HDMI port you are using doesn’t support 720p/1080p resolution & refresh rate of more than 60 Hz. So, make sure that you are using an HDMI port that has all these specifications.
If you buy a new smart TV model, these things are unlikely to bother you because all new models nowadays support FireStick devices.
12. Change Screen Resolution
Sometimes, wrong screen resolution causes display disturbance, and that in turn results in black screen issue. Change the screen resolution of FireStick and check whether the black screen issue in FireStick is fixed or not.
Set your screen resolution to Auto for best performance of FireStick.
This is how you change screen resolution in FireStick:
1. Press & hold the Up button in the navigational ring & Rewind button of FireStick remote for 10 secs.
Note: In some cases, you may not see anything on the screen even after pressing these remote buttons. In that case, please try other methods given in this guide.
2. Now, you will notice different screen resolution options.
3. Set the screen resolution to Automatic/ Use Current resolution.
13. Check whether Amazon Servers are Down
In the unlikely event, if there is an outage of Amazon Servers, you may face Amazon Fire Stick black screen after logo problem. In such a case, no troubleshooting hacks will solve the problem. You have to wait patiently. Once the servers are online again, you can start streaming again on FireStick.
14. Ensure Better Internet Connectivity
FireStick needs strong internet connectivity to run smoothly. So, make sure you have strong internet/ WiFi. If FireStick is not getting a proper internet connection, you will see a black screen on FireStick.
here are a few things you could do:
1. Move your FireStick closer to the WiFi router and remove obstructions between them.
2. Disconnect other devices that may be using your WiFi.
3. Restart your router if needed.
4. Replace it if it’s faulty.
5. You can use an Ethernet Adapter if you want.
6. Also, check whether your internet plan has expired or not. Renew the plan if necessary.
7. Talk to your ISP (Internet Service Provider) to check if there are any problems at their end.
8. Change your ISP if needed.
15. Take the Help of an Expert
You’ve run all the tests, checked all the ports, cables, and ensured your FireStick is plugged in and has power. But your TV screen is still black? Then, this issue could be slightly more complicated.
If Black screen issue on FireStick is due to hardware failure, you should talk to Amazon Customer Care to get help. You may need to give the FireStick to an Authorized Service Center so that they can fix it for you.
