- Amazon services outage
How to Fix FireStick Not Connecting to WiFi
Let’s jump right into the solutions. I would recommend trying the solutions from top to bottom. If one solution doesn’t do the job, move to the next one. Don’t forget to check if your FireStick is connected to Wi-Fi between each step:
1. Check Your WiFi Network Connection Status
Your first course of action should be to check the Network Connection status of your FireStick. This may sound obvious but it’s important to find the problem in order to correct the FireStick won’t connect to WiFi error.
To check, please follow the below steps:
1. Click the Gear Icon on your FireStick main screen
2. Open Network
3. Highlight your WiFi network. Now, press the Play/Pause Button on your FireStick Remote. It’ll display the network status.
If you find that the signal strength isn’t good or very good, we may be looking at WiFi network issue. Try moving your router or the FireStick closer to each other to improve the network connection.
2. Restart Your Router & Modem
You will be surprised to find out how many network connectivity issues are resolved just by restarting the network hardware such as the router and modem (if any).
Here’s how you restart your router and modem:
1. If there’s a power button present on your router, turn off the router by pressing it.
2. Now, unplug your router.
3. If you have a separate modem, do the same with your modem as well, i.e., power it off and unplug it.
4. Wait for 1 minute.
5. Plug your device(s) back. Wait for the lights to turn on and stop blinking
6. If you had a minor issue with the WiFi network, your Amazon Fire Stick not connecting to WiFi issue should be resolved. If not, please try the next solution.
3. Restart Your FireStick Device
You know how people joke about technicians always asking their customers if they have tried restarting the device. Well, it’s because restarting can do wonders and give your device a fresh start.
HERE is a detailed guide on how to restart FireStick.
I am providing 3 ways to restart a device. You can choose any of the following methods:
Method-1: From Settings
1. Click the Gear Icon on your FireStick main screen
2. Select My Fire TV.
3. Click Restart.
4. Select Restart again
5. Wait while the FireStick restarts.
Method-2: Using FireStick Remote
Press and hold the Select/OK Button and Play/Pause Button simultaneously for 5 seconds or so. Wait for your FireStick to restart.
Method-3: Unplugging & Plugging Back In
All you have to do is unplug the FireStick device from the power outlet. Wait 1 minute. Then, plug it back in.
When your FireStick restarts, check if your FireStick is now connected to the Wi-Fi.
4. Reconnect to Your Wi-Fi
If your problem persists, remove your Wi-Fi network that is not connecting and then reconnect.
To remove your WiFi network:
1. Go to Gear Icon on your FireStick home screen.
2. Select Network
3. Scroll to the intended WiFi network, then press the Menu Button on your FireStick remote.
4. Now, press the Select/OK Button on Remote to confirm it.
5. Once disconnected, reconnect by entering the password. Check if the issue has been resolved.
5. Check if WiFi is in the Hidden Network
If your Wi-Fi network is hidden, it will not be listed in the available networks. You can either Unhide that hidden network or find it in the hidden networks and connect to it.
Here’s how you can do that:
1. Go to Gear Icon on your FireStick home screen.
2. Click Network
3. Select Join Other Network
4. Enter your Wi-Fi network /SSID name. Then, choose Next.
5. Choose the security type of the network and click Next. Usually, home WiFis fall under WPA/WPA2 PSK.
6. Now, enter your Wi-Fi password and choose Next.
7. Click CONNECT.
8. Wait for your FireStick to establish a connection.
6. Remove Any Obstructions & Interference
Clear any physical obstructions between your router and FireStick. Moving your router or FireStick closer to each other even a little can make all the difference, in turn solving your connectivity issue.
7. Go for a Wired Ethernet Connection
If you’re having trouble establishing a Wi-Fi connection, consider using an Ethernet connection. Wired connections always provide strong and reliable internet connections.
You can plug the Ethernet adapter into a USB port on the FireStick.
8. Deregister your Amazon Account and Sign Back In
If you’re getting Fire Stick can’t connect to server error, then deregistering your Amazon account may be the way to go. This is what you need to do:
1. Go to Gear Icon on your FireStick home screen
2. Click Account & Profile Settings
3. Click Amazon Account. In my case, it’s Top TV Tips
4. Click Deregister and then follow the on-screen instructions.

2. Select My Fire TV
3. Click Reset to Factory Defaults.
